Ash, Abhi: The journey so far

Ash, Abhi, Bollywood's hottest couple today, did their first film Dhai Akshar Prem Ka, directed by Raj Kanwar. This was Abhishek's third film in 2000. At this time however, there was no romance between the two, as Abhishek was engaged to Karisma Kapoor and Ash was dating Salman Khan.

Abhi and Ash were back together on screen for Rohan Sippy's Kuch Naa Kaho in 2003.

Rumours about Ash and Abhi being a couple started with the shooting of Umrao Jaan where Ash was playing the title role while Abhi played Nawab Sultan Khan. The two remained tightlipped even after the release of the film.

Just a month before Ash and Abhi tied the knot, released Mani Ratnam's Guru. The film, based on the life of Dhirubhai Ambani, was a hit.

The couple got married on 20 April 2007, according to traditional Hindu rites of the South Indian Bunt community, to which Rai belongs. North Indian and Bengali ceremonies were also performed. The wedding took place in a private ceremony at the Bachchan residence Prateeksha, in Juhu, Mumbai, but was heavily covered by the entertainment media.

The couple is considered a super couple in India, and is often referred by the portmanteau "Abhi-Ash" (for Abhishek and Aishwarya).

Ramu, Big B and Abhishek came back in 2008 with a sequel to Sarkar called Sarkar Raaj. Ramu went even a step ahead and included Ash in the film to more or less complete the Bachchan parivaar on screen. The film was a hit.

The couple's next release is much-awaited Mani Ratnam's Raavan. It is being speculated that Ash's role is based on Sita.
