Amitabh Bachchan accompanied by filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma met the press to unveil the first look. Big B, who plays the protagonist in the film, said: ''I trust the director's decision and I am sure that he has taken adequate caution before going ahead with the song.''

Answering questions about his decision to reinterpret the national anthem, Varma said that his attempt should not be termed as unpatriotic. ''I have not tinkered with the anthem or treated it in a disrespectful manner. The song is just a medium to express the angst against the current situation in the country. Please do not try to create a controversy where there is none,'' said Varma.
Varma in his director's note has said: ''Rann would expose the behind-the-scenes truth of how a truth telling machinery by the very virtue of its positioning has no choice but to corrupt itself to become a money-making and power-brokering enterprise.''
