The Big B had tweeted earlier: Shammi Kapoor ji passed away this morning at 5:15 am. Rushing there now. The flamboyance and joie de vivre of the Industry lost!
In his message to the legendary actor, Big B added: "Shammi ji, An entire life full of optimism and happy spirit, caring loving to all... Now suddenly silent."

From one legend to another, the veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar to tweeted to pay his last respect to the deceased actor.

Recounting their first meeting, Ritesh Deshmukh wrote:
"The day I met Shammiji- 4yrs ago in Malaysia I saw him at the AirPort. I kept looking at him and turning my face away not knowing how to approach him and introduce myself. I kept walking ahead till I caught Shammijis eye and he politely waved at me and asked me to come to him and said -
'Hi I'm Shammi Kapoor, I've been wanting to say hello to you'.
Such was the greatness of the man. I was totally embarrassed and I just touched his feet - couldn't get the words out of my head.
My Hero - My Superstar had said hello to me. That was the only time I met him. Today is a very sad day. He will always live in our hearts. Love u sir." -
His Kashmir Ki Kali co-star, Sharmila Tagore said, "Can't associate death with him. Was exactly opposite of that. So full of life. Last few years, he wasn't well. On dialysis 3 times a week. Nothing could dampen his spirit. At an awards ceremony, having just bought a new Mercedes, he insisted on driving from Mumbai to Pune. Whole audience was laughing with him.
Forever young, Shammi Kapoor had no shackles on him at all. He was unstoppable. his spirit was indomitable." -
Saira Banu, who created onscreen magic with Shammi Kapoor in Junglee, said, “Never imagined this could happen to him. Just don't associate that this could happen to a man who was so bubbly. When he was sick, he didn't look like he wanted sympathy. Will be remembered, (he is) irreplaceable. Can't say more, too shocked."
