In 2001, Destiny's Child released their third studio album Survivor which included the track Bootylicious. It became the band's fourth US non-consecutive number-one single, and the word became synonymous with the artist herself. The popularity of the song caused the word to be added to the Oxford English Dictionary, to define a sexually attractive woman.

Destiny's Child's unforseen hiatus was the beginning of an illustrious solo career for the singer as she released her debut solo album Dangerously in Love in 2003, which spawned the number-one hits Crazy in Love and Baby Boy.
Needless to say that it was one of the most successful albums of that year, earning her five Grammy Awards. -
Her third solo album, which released in 2008, continued the successful run for the singer. Titled I Am... Sasha Fierce, the album included the anthemic Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It) and earned Beyonce as many as six Grammys at the 52nd Grammy Awards. The album broke the record for most Grammy Awards won by a female artist in one night.

In 2011, Beyonce released her fourth studio album 4, which became her fourth consecutive solo number-one album on the Billboard 200. This made Beyonce the second female artist and third artist overall, to have her first four studio albums debut atop the charts.

A supporter of US President Barack Obama, Beyonce wowed the crowd with her performance of the American national anthem at his inauguration in January 2013. She faced criticism for reportedly pre-recording a version of The Star-Spangled Banner and lip-synching to her own track during the outdoor ceremony. The singer later admitted she sang with a pre-recorded track because she didn't have enough time to rehearse.

Beyonce won the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award at 2014 VMAs. She also won the Best Cinematography award for Pretty Hurts from Beyonce.
Beyonce also took home the Best Collaboration award for Drunk in Love, featuring her husband Jay-Z at VMAs this year.
