Old is Gold seems to be a universal mantra, especially when it comes to the film industry. Be it Hollywood or Bollywood, the industry can't get enough of its good old, 40-plus actors.

If you think the likes of Shah Rukh, Salman, Aamir and Ajay Devgn, ruled the roost in the 90s, think again, for the ageing Bollywood superstars are still calling the shots two decades hence, landing the best films, meatiest roles, fattest pay and maximum media coverage.

Their Hollywood counterparts are not behind either. Brad Pitt, Johnny Depp, Tom Cruise and Will Smith are just a few examples of Hollywood stars who are raking in the moolah, with age being no bar!

From romancing to tickling the funny bone, these actors are doing all kinds of roles and with the passage of time they are even getting roles written for them!

  • Ajay Devgn: The Singham actor separates the boys from the men in the race for the Last Action Hero of Bollywood. 42-year-old Ajay Devgn, who stands out for his intense acting, scored well at the box office with the underworld drama Once Upon A Time In Mumbaai and the comedy Golmaal 3 last year.

    This year his latest, Singham, a hardcore action movie, is already roaring loud at the box office. 2011 will see two more releases for the actor — Rascals with Sanjay Dutt and Priyadarshan's action thriller Tezz.
  • Shah Rukh Khan: B-town 'badshah' SRK's 2010 film My Name Is Khan, grossed an estimated $18 million at the worldwide box office in its opening weekend.

    The 45-year-old, who is coping with a back problem and even has a few wrinkles, continues to be a part of big banner productions. He has high hopes for the year 2011 with the two most awaited projects of the year — Ra.One and Don 2: The Chase Continues.
  • Salman Khan: For the 45-year-old bachelor, 2010 was memorable solely because of Dabangg, which was one of biggest hits of the year. He carried forward his victorious streak in 2011 with the masala film Ready and his debut co-production Chillar Party, which garnered critical acclaim.

    Salman fans have are now eagerly waiting for the Salman-Kareena starrer Bodyguard, which is expected to released on the eve of Eid.
  • Aamir Khan: At 46, Aamir Khan is one of the Bollywood's most formidable stars. As an actor, director and producer, his films have set new standards in the Hindi film industry. Over the years, he has lost his cute college-boy looks but continues to rule the hearts of the ladies.

    Be it 3 Idiots in 2009, the satirical Peepli Live in 2010 or the recently released, cult, madcap comedy Delhi Belly, Aamir's USP of moulding himself and his work to suit the audience's taste has made him the flavour of all seasons for Indian movie buffs.

    The Ace Khan will now be seen in Dhoom 3, in which he will play the role of a gymnast and martial arts expert.
  • Amitabh Bachchan: Amitabh Bachchan, who is way beyond the 40-mark, has spent over four decades in the Hindi film industry — but the 68-year-old is nowhere close to fading.

    After Bbuddah...Hoga Tera Baap, his fans are eagerly waiting for Aarakshan, as well as the fifth season of the reality show Kaun Banega Crorepati.

    Big B isn't hanging up his boots just as yet.
  • Akshay Kumar: With over 100 films under his belt, the 43-year-old Akshay Kumar is one of the fittest and busiest actors around. For the daredevil star, the year 2010 was bit of a damp squib with just one hit in the form of Housefull.

    The depression in his career graph continued this year with not-so-successful films like Patiala House and Thank You.

    Hopefully, he will jump back into action with Desi Boyz, Joker and Housefull 2 in the near future. The actor also has the Indo-Canadian film Breakaway lined up for release.
  • Sanjay Dutt: The actor, who recently turned 52 is making splashes with his new Kancha Cheena avatar for Karan Johar's Agneepath remake. His 2011 calendar looks packed, with as many as eight films in his kitty. While his Double Dhamaal did decent business, Sanju hopes to enthrall his fans with two biggies Rascals and Agneepath.
  • Saif Ali Khan: Even though he had no releases in 2010, the Chhote Nawaab is set to get experimental now.

    The 40-year-old Saif Ali Khan will be seen in the serious role of a Dalit school teacher in Aarakshan. This will ne followed by his home production Agent Vinod, in which he is said to have performed some mind-blowing stunts.
  • Irrfan Khan: The 48-year-old, who for a long time was considered a crossover actor has in the recent years left an indelible mark on Bollywood. The multiple Filmfare award winning actor was also the recipient of Padma Shri award.

    His three releases in 2011 did average business, but 2012 looks very promising for the intense actor, with two big Hollywood projects lined up — The Amazing Spider-Man and Life of Pi.
  • Sunny Deol: The ‘Action King' of Bollywood has a relatively busy calendar in 2011 with as many as three releases. The 54-year-old might not be the reigning star he once was, but he still continues to have an ardent fan following, which was visible with the success of Yamla Pagla Deewana. With Mohalla Assi and I Love New Year in the pipeline, Sunny Deol hopes to move beyond the home production advantage.
  • Bobby Deol: The 44-year-old actor has made the thriller genre his very own, from Soldier, Ajnabee, Bichhoo to Humraaz. Bobby Deol has one release lined up for 2011 after Tahnk You, Abbas-Mustan's Players.
  • Anil Kapoor: The 51-year old seems to have hit a purple patch in his third decade in Bollywood. Riding on the success of the globally acclaimed Slumdog Millionaire Anil Kapoor is one of the rare Bollywood stars who have made the transition to Hollywood and enjoyed so much success in such little time.

    While he was busy shooting 24 season 8 in 2010, 2011 will see more of Anil in Bollywood with four releases this year, including Priyadarshan's action thriller Tezz. The year is also special for Anil as he stars in Hollywood big-budget production Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.

  • Brad Pitt: The 47-year-old Hollywood actor, unlike many of his age, is in a league of his own. Described time and again as one of the world's most attractive men, Brad Pitt continues to be one of Hollywood's biggest drawing actors, who is also a big draw for the audiences. His just-released Tree of Life has opened to rave reviews and his other big release, the biographical comedy-drama film Moneyball is set for a September 23 release.
  • Johnny Depp: The Pirates of the Caribbean film series star still enjoys a sex symbol status in American cinema, being twice named as the Sexiest man alive by People magazine. The charming actor is one of the most commercially successful Hollywood actors and has four big releases in 2011, tow of which i.e. Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Rango have set the BO on fire.
  • Tom Cruise: The Top Gun actor Tom Cruise is all set to return to action after a relatively quiet 2010 (his solo release was Knight and Day). 2011 will see Cruise back in his Ethan Hunt avatar in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.
  • Nicholas Cage: The Rock and Face/Off star, Nicholas Cage was one of the youngest actors to win an Academy Award and his fame has only grown since. The seasoned actor has a busy 2011 with as many as four releases this year. He is also set to reprise the role of Ghost Rider in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance, which is set to release in 2012.
  • Adam Sandler: Though best known for his comic role, he 44-year-old American actor, comedian, singer, screenwriter, musician, and film producer is a big draw on the silver screen. His two releases so far in 2011 - Zookeeper and Just Go with It - did good business while his Jack & Jill will release in November.
  • Robert Downey Jr.: With four decades of acting experience and countless hit movies under his belt, the Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr. is one of the biggest names in Hollywood.

    Riding on the success of highly acclaimed Tropic Thunder and the sequel to Iron Man, Robert is set to reprise the role of ace detective Sherlock Holmes with Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, which is set for a December 2011 release.
  • Will Smith: Willard Christopher "Will" Smith has come a long way from his The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air days. The show that ran for six years launched one of the biggest movie stars, who by then had also received modest fame for his rapping abilities. The 42-year-old multiple Grammy winner also had a successful outing as a producer with films like Seven Pounds and The Karate Kid.

    The actor will reprise his role in two of his hit movie franchises in 2012 namely - Bad Boys 3 and Men in Black III.
  • Hugh Jackman: The X-Men star, who will turn 43 this year is just getting better and hotter with time.

    The multi-facted Aussie actor, who has twice been voted for as the ‘Sexiest Man Alive' is also an acclaimed singer, dancer, and has acted in stage musicals.

    Hugh has four releases this year, with one of his most anticipated movie being the science fiction film Real Steel, which will release in October.
  • Daniel Craig: The 43-year-old ruthlessly handsome star, Daniel Craig has achieved immense fame in little time. Daniel was the sixth actor to portray the character of James Bond and since the release of the 2006-movie, Casino Royale his popularity has reached fever pitch.

    His breakthrough performances were in the films Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Road to Perdition, Layer Cake, Munich, and The Golden Compass.

    His Cowboys & Aliens that just released has opened to good reviews and is slated to be a big hit. Daniel fans will also see the action star in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and the Adventures of Tintin: Secret of the Unicorn later this year. His next Bond film Bond 23 will release in 2012.
  • Bruce Willis: Best known for portraying John McClane in the Die Hard series, action star Bruce Willis is one of Hollywood's few action hero, who have enjoyed mass following and critical and financial successes at the BO. He has also appeared in over sixty films, including box office successes like Pulp Fiction, Sin City, 12 Monkeys, The Fifth Element, Armageddon, and The Sixth Sense.

    Bruce has two action thrillers which will release later this year - The Cold Light of Day and Catch .44. 2012 will see a lot more of Bruce Willis as the actor who will reprise his role in The Expendables sequel and Die Hard 5, besides six other projects.
  • Sylvester Stallone: The multi-faceted Sylvester 'Sly' Stallone, is best known for his machismo and Hollywood action roles, with two of his most notable characters being the boxer Rocky Balboa and soldier John Rambo. The actor, filmmaker, screenwriter, film director and occasional painter strengthened his reputation as an actor and his box office earnings with his Rocky and Rambo franchises, along with other action films.

    His 2010 film The Expendables did very well and Stallone's will don the director's cap for the much-anticipated multi-starrer sequel to the action extravaganza, which will release in 2012.
  • John Travolta: The 57-year actor has perhaps seen it all in his four decade long career. A string of hit films, a life of fame and phase of lull followed by a string of hot movies that brought him right back where he belonged - as one of Hollywood's top actors.

    The Grease and Old Dogs star will next be seen in Sylvester Stallone's sequel to The Expendables.
  • Gerard Butler: The Scottish actor is a Hollywood hottie and even at 41, he seems to be getting only younger on the big screen. The 300 and P.S. I Love You star will next be seen in the comedy Movie 43, Coriolanus and Machine Gun Preacher in 2011.
