D Ramanaidu gets Dada Saheb Phalke
Veteran filmmaker Daggubati Ramanaidu has been conferred the Dadasaheb Phalke award. Ramanaidu, born on June 6, 1936, has produced more than 110 films in almost all Indian languages.

The 74-year-old filmmaker was elected to Lok Sabha on behalf of Telugu Desam Party from Bapatla constituency in 1999.

He has received several awards from the Andhra Pradesh government and his film Surigadu was selected for the Indian Panorama in 1993.

Ramanaidu's younger son Venkatesh is a popular Telugu actor, who also acted in a couple of Hindi movies like Anari and Taqdeerwala.

Some of his well-known films are Premanagar,Dildar and Bandish in Hindi, Srikrishna Tulabharam, Preminchu and Ramudu Bheemudu in Telugu and Asukh and Sudhu Ekbar Bolo in Bengali.

Ramanaidu has worked with big names like NT Rama Rao, A Nageswara Rao, Sivaji Ganesan, Pandari Bai, Jamuna, Padmini, Sobhan Babu, Kamal Haasan, Chiranjeevi, Rajnikanth, Rajesh Khanna, Hema Malini, Rekha and Jeetendra to name a few.

On receiving the award, Ramanaidu said: "I feel honoured. I have served the film industry with commitment for over 45 years now," Ramanaidu, who is currently shooting his latest Telugu film at Araku in Visakhapatnam, said in interview, as news of his being chosen for the award was announced.
