Dev Anand's leading ladies pay their tribute

The who's who of Bollywood bid adieu to evergreen star Dev Anand, who died on December 1 in London, at a memorial service held at Mehboob Studios in Mumbai. And among those were his leading laides including Waheeda Rahman, Hema Malini, Zeenat Aman, Asha Parekh and Tina Ambani (Tina Munim).

  • Among those who prayed for renowned actor Dev Anand at the memorial held for him on Friday at Mumbai's Mehboob Studios, were his former leading ladies, including Waheeda Rahman, Hema Malini, Zeenat Aman, Asha Parekh and Tina Ambani (the former Tina Munim).

    Dev Anand died in London on December 3 and was cremated locally too.
  • Dev Anand and Waheeda Rehman did several films together, including the iconic 1965 Hindi film, Guide. She also featured in his directorial debut, Prem Pujari.
  • Hema Malini featured opposite Dev Anand in what many consider to be a Dev Anand classic - Johny Mera Naam.

    Hema and Dev Anand worked in other films too, such as Amir Garib and Joshila.
  • Veteran actress Asha Parekh featured with Dev Anand in Jab Pyar Kisise Hota Hai, Mahal and Kahin Aur Chal. In an interview to IANS recently, she said: Working with Dev Saab was "like being on an express train." "Dev Saab was such a huge star that people didn't give him enough credit as an actor. He was very stylish. But he was also a brilliant actor. His clothes, hairstyle, the way he talked and walked exuded glamour and uniqueness. And he was a complete film person. Actor, director, writer, producer…. He lived breathed, ate and slept cinema, said Asha.

  • Dev Anand launched the then Tina Munim in the 1978 film Des Pardes. Later she also worked with him in films like Lootmaar and Man Pasand.
  • Tabu made her Bollywood debut as Dev Anand's daughter in Hum Naujawan.
  • Zeenat Aman became a star after she featured in Hare Rama Hare Krishna. Through the 70s, the hit pair delivered half a dozen films, including the blockbuster Warrant.
  • Simi Garewal, who worked with Devsaab in Teen Deviyaan (1965), at the memorial service.

    Simi said at the memorial that Mehboob studios was the place where "I gave my first shot with Dev Anand for Teen Deviyaan. Though I must say that there can be no shokh sabha for a legend such as Dev Anand. He was truly incomparable and a man who can't be matched."
