Golden Couples of Bollywood
-
Thirty years after their last film together Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh are back on screen in Do Dooni Chaar. Will this comeback couple inspire other Bollywood greats to do the same? Here are some of the screen couples we'd like to see together again
-
– Rishi and Neetu's reel romances were as popular as their real life love story. They set the screen on fire in Amar Akbar Anthony, Rafoo Chakkar, Khel Khel Mein and Kabhie Kabhie, among other films
-
Amitabh and Rekha's screen outings were the stuff of legends. Mr Natwarlal, Muqaddar ka Sikander and Suhaag established them as the top movie couple. Speculation about their romance spilling into real life came to a head when Amitabh starred with wife Jaya and rumoured paramour Rekha in Silsila in which all three are caught in a love triangle. Today, Amitabh and Rekha do not speak, at least in public, so there's little chance of them re-igniting the screen
-
Dharam Paaji and Dreamgirl Hema Malini created movie magic in Sholay and Seeta Aur Geeta. Their romance blossomed despite Dharmendra being a married man. Finally, Dharam converted to Islam so he could marry Hema without having to obtain a divorce from his first wife. Will we see Veeru and Basanti together again on celluloid? Fingers crossed for that one
-
Jeetendra and Sridevi made a good match in movies like Himmatwala, Mawaali and Tohfa. The white shoes, the coloured clay pots and the dance routines – may we have more please?
-
Sri Baby wasn't the only lady in Jumping Jack's reel life. He also shared great chemistry with Jaya Prada in Maqsad and Majjal
-
Shammi Kapoor and Asha Parekh burnt up the screen in Teesri Manzil, especially in the song Aaja Aaja. They went on to become one of the most popular screen pairs
-
Kamal Hassan and Rati Agnihotri made a lovely young pair. Their on-screen romance brought freshness to the cinematic idea of love, and no matter what dose we get of them singing in the lifts in Mere Jeevan Sathi) or swearing undying-love under waterfalls in Hum Bane Tum Bane (Ek Duje Ke Liye) we just can't get enough.
-
With movies like Jyoti, Meri Awaz Suno, Khushboo and others, Jeetendra and Hema Malini became quite a hit couple. Just like they were drawn to each other, the audience were drawn to the theatres to catch a glimpse of them.
-
When Rishi Kapoor cozied up to Tina Munim in fog-laden valleys adorned by beautiful greenery in Karz and Bade Dilwala, it warmed a lot of young hearts. We would love to see them recreate their magic on silver screen again.
-
Hearts melted when Rajesh Khanna sang Mere Sapnon Ki Rani to Sharmila Tagore amid the hills of Darjeeling. Aradhana and Amar Prem brought them together to create an unforgettable celluloid couple
-
Rajesh Khanna romanced the petal lipped Mumtaaz in Dushman, Do Raaste , Dushman and charmed us all. Naach Meri Bulbul from Roti was truly entertaining.
-
Mithun and Sridevi had lots of lights and action in Guru, with so much shimmer in the movie that it was almost blinding. The romance was also reflected perfectly in the flashy song Bad Girl. This couple can absolutely do it all over once again…
-
Madhuri Dixit and Anil Kapoor made our hearts beat faster with their sheer sensuality in Dhak Dhak Karne Laga. Beta, Ram Lakhan, Parindaand Kishen Kanhaiya went on to become the biggest blockbusters, and no prizes for guessing why!!
-
Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla were the It Couple of ‘90s Bollywood. They fell out when Juhi started a production company with Aamir's rival Shah Rukh Khan, but we'd love to see them put aside their differences and give us more of the magic we saw in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak and Hum Hain Rahi Pyar Ke
-
Govinda and Neelam's quiet on-screen eye to eye romance stole many hearts and made movies like Love 86 (1986), Khudgarz (1987) and Hatya (1988). They absolutely must get back together on-screen…
-
Bhagyashree got the debut of a lifetime when she starred opposite Salman Khan in Maine Pyaar Kiya. Their chemistry was blessed with the sweet youthful innocent power of love in the movie, and songs like Dil Deewana prove that the two were almost made for each other on screen. Even their clothes were colour coordinated in the movie.
-
Tough guy Sanjay Dutt and sweet as sugar Pooja Bhatt were a couple to remember in Sadak. Encore!
-
Jackie Shroff's raw masculinity and Meenakshi Sheshadri's feminine innocence fit in perfectly to deliver an eternal romance in Hero. Seen later in Teri Meherbaaniyan, the couple created the chemistry with much ease.
-
Govinda and Karishma Kapoor are great actors, with superb comic acting. But together, they were like a house on fire. Songs like Sarkailo Khatiya from Raja Babu are sure to take away all our worries.
-
– Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai were heaven sent in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. Who wouldn't want to see them together again on screen? Don't blame us for dreaming
-
Akshay Kumar and Raveena Tandon sizzled in the rain in Mohra. The song where Raveena is seen in Akshay's arms as they dance about in the rain is truly the ‘wet-saree' bit done to perfection. Their break up in real life was dramatic enough to take the charm out of their on-screen chemistry.
-
Dhadkan was not their first film together, but in it the chemistry between Akshay Kumar and Shilpa Shetty left us wanting more. Their real life break up also put an end to their screen pairings but Akshay did appear on season 2 of Bigg Boss, hosted by Shilpa, so perhaps there's a good chance they might reunite in a future movie
-
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan created history as they recapped the eternal love story of Devdas and Parvati in Devdas. With the help of elaborate sets and a dramatic story, the movie transferred us to an other-worldy realm. The auspicious and tragic nature of their beautiful love was only successfully portrayed because of the superb chemistry. But sadly, the two actors parted ways when a jealous Salman Khan created quite a scene on the sets of Chalte Chalte.
-
Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor's fresh romance in Jab We Met had a very different feel to it, maybe because of their real-life affair. She was the chulbuli Punjabi kudi and he was the troubled rich kid out in search for answers. Together they made us all respect the ideas of the new-age love. Though the couple have broken up, it seems only natural that they put aside their differences and come back together on screen.
