  • Juhi Chawla's million dollar smile is enough to make hearts skip a beat. From winning Miss India to becoming one of the leading ladies of Bollywood, Juhi has won people's love through her beauty, charm and acting.

As the bubbly actress turns 47, here is a look at her Bollywood journey.
  • Juhi Chawla was born on November 13, 1967 to Dr S Chawla and Mona Chawla in Ludhiana, Punjab. She went to school in Ludhiana till the family moved to Mumbai. She graduated from Sydenham College, specialising in Human Resources. Juhi is also a trained Kathak exponent and classical singer.
  • Juhi Chawla is married to industrialist Jai Mehta and the couple have two children - a daughter and a son.
  • Juhi won the Miss India pageant in 1984. The same year, she also tried her luck in the Miss Universe pageant but failed to make it to the final 10. But she took away the title for Best Costume.
  • Bollywood came calling after her brush with beauty pageant fame. Her first movie was Sultanat (1986) opposite Karan Kapoor. The movie also featured Dharmendra, Sridevi and Sunny Deol.
  • Her next movie, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak (1988), catapulted her into the big league. Juhi and Aamir Khan played starcrossed lovers and Juhi won the Filmfare Lux New Face Award and received her first Filmfare Best Actress nomination.
  • The Juhi-Aamir equation added up to a number of movies including Love Love Love (1989) and Tum Mere Ho (1990).
  • But she wisely decided not to be a one man woman, working with Govinda in his home production Swarg (1990), which turned out to be a blockbuster hit.
  • A few box office duds later, Juhi bounced back with Bol Radha Bol (1992) opposite Rishi Kapoor. The David Dhawan directed comedy was a huge hit.

Her next release in the same year was Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman opposite the then little known Shah Rukh Khan.
  • The year 1993 turned out to be Juhi's annus mirabilis with not one but three hits beginning with Aaina.

Next came Darr in which she was again seen opposite Shah Rukh, whose stars were now on the rise. Juhi became famous as K-K-Kiran and SRK became equally famous for saying it with style.

Hit No 3 was feel good entertainer Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke opposite usual suspect Aamir. Juhi won her first Filmfare Award for Best Actress for this film.
  • The success of Hum Hain Rahi Pyaar Ke was followed by a lean phase in Juhi's career. Films like Saajan Ka Ghar (1994), Ram Jaane (1995), Najayaz (1995) and Loafer (1996) entirely failed to set the cash registers ringing.
  • Salvation came in the form of SRK and Yes Boss (1997). The movie was one of the biggest hits of 1997. Her next two releases in the same year were Ishq (1997) and Deewana Mastana (1997).
  • In 1998, Juhi was seen in Duplicate with Shah Rukh Khan and in Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Jhooth Bole Kauwa Kaate with Anil Kapoor.
  • Arjun Pandit (1998), Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani (2000) and One 2 Ka 4 (2001) – the last 2 with serial co-star SRK - did average business.
  • Box office apart, Juhi became a critic's darling with roles in Jhankaar Beats (2003), 3 Deewarein (2003), My Brother Nikhil (2005) and Bas Ek Pal (2006).
  • In 2011, Juhi featured in Onir's critically acclaimed film I Am, alongside Manisha Koirala. She was awarded the Best Actress award at the 13th London Asian Film Festival and also nominated for Filmfare Best Supporting Actress Award.
  • Her last major outing in Bollywood was in the 2012 film Son Of Sardaar opposite Sanjay Dutt.

The actress will next be seen in the film Gulaab Gang with Madhuri Dixit and Huma Qureshi.
  • In 2014, the actress made a comeback on the silver screen as a corrupt politician in Soumik Sen's Gulaab Gang featuring with her 90s competitor actress Madhuri Dixit. Gulaab gang became Juhi's first negative role in a career spanning 28 years.
  • Juhi has also featured in Punjabi films like Shaheed Uddham Singh (2000), Des Hoyaa Pardes (2004), and Waris Shah: Ishq Daa Waris (2006).
  • The South hasn't missed out on the Juhi factor either – she has featured in movies with southern heavyweights Mohanlal and Mammootty.
  • Juhi made her presence felt on the small screen as a judge on dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa season 3 alongside choreographers Saroj Khan and Vaibhavi Merchant.
  • Along the way, she turned producer and became the co-owner of the production company Dreamz Unlimited with Shah Rukh Khan and director Aziz Mirza. The first two films produced by the production company were Phir Bhi Dil Hai Hindustani and Asoka. Their third film, Chalte Chalte was Dreamz Unlimited's first hit.
  • Juhi Chawla and Jai Mehta are the co-owners of the Indian Premier League team Kolkata Knight Riders in partnership with Shah Rukh Khan.
  • We wish Juhi a very happy birthday!
