Soha was born to veteran Bollywood actress Sharmila Tagore and the late Nawab of Pataudi, Mansoor Ali Khan, on October 4, 1978. Tiger Pataudi, as her father was known, was one of India's most successful cricket captains. Soha's older brother is Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, and older sister Saba Ali Khan is a jewellery designer.

Before venturing into Bollywood, Soha worked for the Ford Foundation and Citibank. Following in the footsteps of her mother and brother, Soha made her Bollywood debut in 2004 with the film Dil Maange More, which also featured Shahid Kapoor, Ayesha Takia and Tulip Joshi. Midnight's Children was Soha's only movie in 2012. Soha played the role of the protagonist's sister in this movie adaptation of Salman Rushdie's controversial novel.
