Varun Dhawan celebrates his 32nd birthday today

  • Bollywood actor Varun Dhawan, who has starred in a variety of roles in movies like Any Body Can Dance , Badlapur and Dilwale, is on the fast track to stardom as he turns 32. Varun scored full marks as Bollywood's Student Of The Year with his debut in 2012. As he turns a year older today, here's a pictorial look at his journey in Bollywood so far.

  • Varun Dhawan was born on April 24, 1987 in Mumbai to filmmaker David Dhawan and his wife Karuna. Varun's elder brother Rohit is a director whose first film was Desi Boyz (2011).
  • Varun, who has mostly lived in Mumbai, also has a degree in Business Management from UK's Nottingham Trent University.
  • Varun's Bollywood journey began as an assistant director for filmmaker Karan Johar in My Name Is Khan (2010).
  • Varun made his debut with Karan Johar's Student Of The Year, which also featured newcomers Alia Bhatt and Sidharth Malhotra. The movie did fairly well at the box office and Varun received rave reviews for his role as Rohan, the ambitious son of a rich businessman, determined to win his school's annual championship.
  • Varun's next film was 2014's romantic comedy Main Tera Hero, which was directed by his father and co-starred actresses Ileana D'Cruz and Nargis Fakhri. The movie, a remake of the Telugu film Kandireega, received an average response at the box office. However, Varun's performance as a college student, who sets out to rescue the love of his life from the clutches of a notorious gangster in Bangkok, went down well with the audience.
  • 2014's Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania starred Varun as a Delhi boy who falls in love with a girl from Punjab - played by Alia Bhatt - and follows her all the way to Ambala to woo her family. The film was a hit and Varun charmed audiences with his boy-next-door act.
  • In 2015, Varun Dhawan featured in Sriram Raghavan's critically acclaimed revenge drama Badlapur. The film, which also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Huma Qureshi and Yami Gautam, did fairly well at the box office. Varun's performance successfully garnered rave reviews.
  • In 2015, Varun Dhawan co-starred with Shraddha Kapoor in Remo D'Souza's Any Body Can Dance 2, which also featured Prabhu Deva and Lauren Gottlieb. ABCD 2 crossed the 100-crore-mark within three weeks of its release.
  • In 2015, Varun co-starred Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol and Kriti Sanon in Rohit Shetty's Dilwale.
  • In 2016, Varun was seen in the action-thriller Dishoom. Directed by his filmmaker brother Rohit, the film also featured John Abraham and Jacqueline Fernandez.
  • Varun Dhawan was then seen in Shashank Khaitan's Badrinath Ki Dulhania, co-starring Alia Bhatt. The film crossed the 100-crore mark in two weeks of its release.
  • Varun Dhawan also starred in Judwaa 2, co-starring Taapsee Pannu and Jacqueline Fernandez.
  • In 2018, Varun Dhawan starred in Shoojit Sircar's October co-starring Banita Sandhu, which received critical acclaim.
