  • Easily among the best-looking of Bollywood's current crop of A-list actors, Hrithik Roshan is all set to begin 2012 on a high note, playing the lead in the much-awaited remake of Amitabh Bachchan's 1990 classic, Agneepath. The actor reprises the role of Vijay Dinanath Chauhan made famous by none other than Big B himself. But Hrithik has said that his film is not a remake and he has approached the role with a completely different angle. The film is going to open on January 26.
  • Though 2012 appears to be starting on a good note professionally for the actor, 2011 proved to be a trying year for him with a serious recurring backache plaguing him most of the year. It even forced him to take a break from the shoot of Agneepath.
  • Hrithik is now busy on his home production Krrish 3, the third installment in the series. Koi Mil Gaya and Krrish are the first and second films in the series. Though the film will be finished in October this year, Hrithik's dad and filmmaker Rakesh Roshan plans to devote an entire year to special effects. The film will now release in Diwali 2013.

  • Hrithik aka Duggu was born in Mumbai, to a Punjabi family. His father, actor-director Rakesh Roshan, is the son of music director Roshan. While his mother, Pinky, is the daughter of producer and director J Om Prakash. His uncle Rajesh Roshan is also a famous music director.
  • The actor found himself in the limelight in the year 2000. He made his debut in the blockbuster film Kaho Na Pyaar Hai which earned him the Filmfare award for Best Actor and Best Male Debut.
  • The same year, the actor married his childhood sweetheart Sussanne Khan, daughter of Sanjay Khan, on December 20, 2000.

    The wedding ceremony, which took place at the heavily-guarded Golden Palms Resort and Spa on the Bangalore-Pune highway, was a private ceremony where only close friends and relatives of Hrithik and Sussanne were invited.

  • In 2009, a hint of a scandal hit Hrithik when he and his Kites co-star Barabara Mori were spotted together quite often at public events.

  • On the professional front, Hrithik played small roles in Aap Ke Deewane (1980) and Bhagwan Dada (1986) both of which had his father Rakesh Roshan in the lead role.

    He then became an assistant director and worked for Karan Arjun (1995) and Koyla (1997).

  • Hrithik Roshan got a lot appreciation for his role in Khaled Mohammed's Fiza. Although the film did poorly at the box office, the movie earned him another Filmfare nomination for Best Actor.
  • Hrithik's Mission Kashmir, became the third highest grossing film of the year.
  • In 2001, Hrithik Roshan starred in Subhash Ghai's Yaadein, which didn't do well at the box office.

    He then signed his first movie with Karan Johar - Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, which did extremely well, becoming the second-highest grossing film of 2001 and the biggest hit overseas.

    But the actor had an unsuccessful year in 2002 when all three of his releases - Mujhse Dosti Karoge!, Na Tum Jaano Na Hum and Aap Mujhe Achche Lagne Lage failed to make an impact at the box office.
  • In 2003, he made a comeback with the science-fiction film Koi Mil Gaya. Directed by Rakesh Roshan, Hrithik played a mentally disabled young man in the movie.
  • Farhan Akhtar's Lakshya was Hrithik's only release in 2004; the film did not do well at the box office. However, his performance was praised by critics.
  • Hrithik took a two-year break from acting before resurfacing with the superhero film Krrish, a sequel to his 2003 film Koi... Mil Gaya which released in June 2006.

    The film was a major box office success and one of the highest grossers of 2006.
  • His film Dhoom 2, a sequel to the 2004 Dhoom got him his third Filmfare award for Best Actor. The film went on to become the highest grossing film of 2006.
  • His Greek God looks in the film got him rave reviews.
  • In 2008, Hrithik essayed the role of Akbar in Ashutosh Gowariker's Jodhaa Akbar opposite Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. The epic love story did extremely well at the box office.

    The film also got him his first international award for Best Actor at the Golden Minbar International Film Festival in Kazan, Russia.
  • He was seen with his controversial co-star Barbara in Kites in May 2010. The film flopped at the box office.

    But before the year was out, Hrithik gave an amazing performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Guzaarish, opposite Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. He played the role of a quadriplegic toying with the idea of euthanasia, and has been greatly commended on his character portrayal.
  • In 2011, he was seen in Zoya Akhtar's Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, with Katrina Kaif, Farhan Akhtar and Abhay Deol. The film was a hit.
