Kamal Haasan is All for a Swachh Bharat On His Birthday

Actor Kamal Haasan, who was nominated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his Swachh Bharat campaign, contributed to the drive by cleaning up Madhambakkam lake in Chennai on his birthday today.

Mr Haasan told NDTV, "On their birthday people usually cut cakes, but we are proud to cut garbage away from the social environment. We have joined hands with a lot of people who are knowledgeable in this field, and we hope to connect with more people in the state and around the country." He also shared his plan to clean up 10 lakes.

Mr Haasan was supported by volunteers from his social welfare organisations.

A mass frenzy of sorts broke out as people vied to click pictures of Mr Haasan.

The lake as it looked before Mr Haasan and his volunteers cleaned it.

The area around the lake was also soiled by garbage before it was cleaned.
