Prince William's wife Kate gave birth to a baby girl on May 2, their second child who will be fourth in line to the British throne.The Kensington Palace informed on Twitter, "Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a daughter at 8.34am," adding, "Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well."

The Duchess of Cambridge is admired globally for her grace and poise and connect with the people of Britain. She's also feted for her fashion choices. As we wait to catch a glimpse of Kate and the royal baby, here is a pictorial look at her journey so far.

Catherine Elizabeth Middleton was born on January 9, 1982 to pilot Michael Middleton and flight attendant Carole, in Reading, Berkshire, England.

Kate has a younger sister, Philippa (Pippa) and a younger brother, James. She grew up in Chapel Row at Bucklebury, a village in England.

Kate's family came from humble beginnings. While not quite a coal miner's daughter, Kate's ancestors from her father's side were woollen cloth merchants and manufacturers. Her maternal ancestors, the Harrisons, on the other hand, were labourers and miners from Sunderland and Durham.

Kate has worked as an accessory buyer for the clothing chain Jigsaw and also as a part-time catalogue photographer, webpage designer and marketing officer for her parents' firm Party Pieces.

She studied in Scotland at the University of St Andrews, where she met Prince William of Wales in 2001. The couple officially announced they were dating after they were spotted enjoying a ski trip together in Klosters in April 2004.

Kate and William broke up briefly in 2007. The two continued to remain friends and later rekindled their relationship.

Prince William and Kate Middleton were engaged after an eight-year courtship. The official announcement was made in November 2010, after William proposed to Kate on holiday in Kenya the previous month. For Kate, it was a moment of validation after being dubbed 'Waity Katy' in the press for not having a proper job and seemingly just waiting for a royal proposal.

Kate walked the aisle on April 29, 2011, at the Westminster Abbey, dressed in cream Alexander McQueen. Her new title was Duchess of Cambridge.
