Rajneeti is the story of Samar Pratap's (Ranbir Kapoor) determined and fierce fight to protect his family. Of the bloodiest of final battles in a war alien to his character. It is the story of a man's descent into the moral hell that is Indian politics.

It is also the story of Bhaskar Sanyal (Naseeruddin Shah), the fire-brand leftist leader, feared for his single-handed ability to challenge the most powerful of leaders as he was respected for his political integrity.

This will be Ranbir, Katrina's third film together.

Ajay and Nana Patekar have earlier worked in Jha's Apaharan which was the story of a complex relationship and clashing ideologies between a father and son set in the backdrop of the kidnapping industry in the eastern state of Bihar.
