Kochadaiyaan, an upcoming Tamil period film, marks the return of Rajinikanth to the silver screen three years after his blockbuster Enthiran. This will be the superstar's first film since his illness in 2011.

The teaser of the film, which was released on September 9 to coincide with Ganesh Chaturthi, says: “There are heroes, there are super heroes. But then there is only one Rajinikanth”.

The period film, which is the first photorealistic 3D film to be produced in India, will be a double treat for Rajinikanth fans as the movie features the superstar in two roles – Kochadaiyaan the warrior and his son Rana.

Rajinikanth's younger daughter Soundarya R Ashwin, who has directed the movie, says the new technology used in the film captures the "performance of the artist through facial scanning and intensive research and then developed using technologies."

i>Kochadaiyaan, which will see Deepika Padukone as Rajinikanth's love interest, has music composed by Oscar-winner A R Rahman. The film also stars Sarath Kumar, Shobhana and Jackie Shroff.

The film, which will be released simultaneously in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and English, is likely to hit the screens on December 12, 2013.
