Munna Bhai Comes Home to Warm Welcome from Bollywood

Jailed actor Sanjay Dutt came home on a month-long break from prison to a sizeable welcome committee comprising of his Bollywood friends. Among them was his Munna Bhai producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, pictured here with the actor and his wife Maanyata. Mr Dutt, 56, was granted a 30-day parole on August 26 for his daughter Iqra's nose surgery.

Sanjay Dutt greeted Mr Chopra warmly.

Speculation of VIP treatment has been prompted by Sanjay Dutt's repeated breaks from Pune's Yerawada Jail, where he is serving the remainder of a five-year sentence for his role in the 1993 Bombay Blasts.

Jazbaa director Sanjay Gupta, who worked with Sanjay Dutt in films like Jung and Kaante, was also among the early visitors.

Actor Sanjay Dutt was photographed outside his Mumbai residence on Wednesday evening, home from Pune's Yerawada Jail. The actor has been allowed to leave prison for a month because his daughter Iqra, is having nose surgery.

Mr Dutt was found guilty in 2013 of acquiring illegal weapons from those involved in the 1993 attacks in Mumbai. He was sentenced to six years in jail in 2007; he served 18 months but then was out on bail, fighting the conviction until a court in March 2013 ordered him back to jail in Pune.

Actor Sanjay Dutt left for Pune's Yerwada Jail on March 22 after his parole ended.

Here we see him leaving for the Jail.

Sanjay had left the jail on December 21 last year to take care of his ailing wife Manyata and his children. His parole was supposed to be a month long.

The parole was extended twice. These extensions also created a lot of controversy about the ‘VIP-treatment' meted out to the actor.

37-year-old wife Manyata was hospitalised in January after she complained of lung complications.

She is feeling fine now and taking care of their children Shahraan and Iqra.

Actor Sanjay Dutt reached his Mumbai home on Saturday (December 21, 2013) after being granted a month's leave from Pune's Yerwada Jail.

Sanjay Dutt was sanctioned leave for a month by Pune's divisional commissioner Prabhakar Deshmukh after he filed an application citing his wife Maanyata's illness.

"My wife has a tumour of the liver. There have been many cancer instances in my family. Doctors are investigating. Please pray for my wife. We will follow medical course after the investigation," he told the media.

Actor Sanjay Dutt returned to Yerwada jail in Pune on October 30, 2013 after his 30 day leave ended. The actor was granted two weeks of leave on medical grounds on October 1, 2013 and was given an extension of another two weeks.

The actor was sentenced in March by the Supreme Court to five years in prison in an illegal arms possession case linked to the 1993 terror attack in Mumbai, in which 250 people died in serial bombings.

Sanjay Dutt's wife Maanyata accompanied the actor upto the gates.

Sanjay Dutt, who spent his leave at home in Mumbai, thanked the media for respecting his privacy as he had requested.

In a welcome news for his fans, Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt, in prison since May, reached his Mumbai home after being granted 14 days of leave.

Sanjay Dutt told the press: 'I'm a law abiding citizen. Want to spend this time peacefully with my family.'

Hundreds of people gathered for a last glimpse of their beloved Munnabhai as Sanjay Dutt made his way to court to surrender in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case.

Dressed in white, the actor had a tilak on his forehead, a sign of prayers offered at Mumbai's famous Siddhivinayak Temple.

Mobbed by the crowd, it took Sanjay Dutt 20 minutes to make his way from the car to the court.

Sanjay Dutt is expected to be taken to Pune's Yerawada Jail where he will serve the rest of the five-year sentence he was handed by the Supreme Court for illegal arms possession.

At Yerawada Jail, where Sanjay Dutt is likely to be lodged in a secure 'Anda cell,' authorities say no special arrangements are being made for him.

Police and jail authorities have promised Sanjay Dutt adequate security after he claimed to have received death threats from 'fundamentalist groups.'

Sanjay Dutt was accompanied by brother-in-law Kumar Gaurav and director Mahesh Bhatt to the court.

Mahesh Bhatt tried to control the frenzy around him.

Earlier in the day, Sanjay Dutt was seen with wife Manyata at their residence before he left for court.

Manyata and Sanjay greeted the hordes of people gathered outside their home to express their solidarity with the actor.
