Will The Real Mary Kom Please Stand Up?

National Award-winning actress Priyanka Chopra and Olympic medalist boxer Mary Kom launched the music of upcoming movie Mary Kom, a biopic of the prizefighter, in Mumbai on August 13.

Mr Bhansali went onto the stage to embrace boxer Mary Kom, whose struggles until she booked a berth for India at the Olympics have been depicted in the movie.

Priyanka waved the tricolour at the launch, ahead of Independence Day.

The lead pair of the movie, Priyanka Chopra and Darshan Kumar, signed off the evening by striking a pose with their real life counterparts - boxer Mary and her husband Onler.

Mary Kom is slated to release on September 19.

Daddy's little girl grew up to be a world famous boxer. Priyanka Chopra, who plays the eponymous prizefighter in upcoming movie Mary Kom, launched the first trailer on July 23 in Mumbai.

The movie is a biopic of inspirational Manipuri boxer Mary Kom, who won bronze at the London Olympics in 2012, the first year that Women's Boxing was introduced at the Games.

Priyanka Chopra was very much in character as Mary Kom, complete with a boxing glove to knock out anybody messing with her.

Priyanka poses with Mary Kom producer Sanjay Leela Bhansali, in whose 2013 film Ram-Leela she performed an item number.

Mary Kom's first-time director Omung Kumar is a respected production designer and has collaborated with Mr Bhansali on the films Black and Saawariya. The movie is slated to be released on September 5.
