Remembering Nanda: 10 best films

Nanda, inarguably Bollywood's most elusive actress, died in Mumbai on March 25 at the age of 75.
The yesteryear actress was the star of many hit movies of the 60s and 70s.

Ittefaq (1969): In this crime thriller, Rajesh Khanna, suspected of murdering his wife and on the run, chances on Nanda's home and holds her at gunpoint. Nanda received a Filmfare nomination for Best Actress.

Jab Jab Phool Khile (1965): One of many hit movies co-starring Shashi Kapoor, this movie tells the story of a poor boatman in Kashmir who falls in love with a rich tourist. The movie became a blockbuster and its songs are still remembered and sung.

Teen Deviyan (1965): Dev Anand plays a poet who falls in love with three different women – Kalpana, Simi Garewal and Nanda. The movie is remembered for its soulful music by S D Burman.

Gumnaam (1965): A group of travellers stranded on an island end up dead one by one. This cult thriller, adapted from the Agatha Christie classic 'And Then There Were None', co-stars Manoj Kumar, Pran and Helen.

Hum Dono (1961): Dev Anand plays a double role as lookalike military men in a case of mistaken identity. Nanda and Sadhana star as his two heroines.

Kala Bazaar (1960): The only movie to star the three Anand brothers together, it also featured Waheeda Rahman in a prominent role. This movie marked the beginning of the friendship between her and Nanda.

Chhoti Bahen (1959): Nanda played the blind younger sister looked after by two elder brothers, played by Balraj Sahni and Rehman.

The Train (1970): Nanda convinced co-producer Rajendra Kumar - her co-star from Dhool Ka Phool and Kanoon - to cast the struggling Rajesh Khanna as a cop investigating a series of murders committed on a train. She played his mysterious girlfriend.

Aanchal (1960): Directed by Vasant Joglekar, the movie starred Ashok Kumar, Nanda, Lalita Pawar and Nirupa Roy. Nanda won the Filmfare Award for the Best Supporting Actress for this movie.

Mazdoor (1983): In this riveting drama, Nanda played the wife of Dilip Kumar, a labourer-turned-mill owner. The family fortunes rise but everything changes after their daughter's wedding.
