Vengai is a film which bears the stamp of its director, Hari, in every frame. Hari is best-known for the blockbuster flick, Singham. Like Singham, Vengai too is a masala entertainer.
Selvam (Dhanush) is the son of Veerapandi (Raj Kiran), an influential man in the village. Prakash Raj plays the local MLA (Annachi) who promises to work with Veerapandi for the welfare of the village.
Annachi is secretly corrupt and Veerapandi tries to curtail him. Selvam wants to deal with the corruption but his father sends him to Trichy.
Enter Radhika (Tamanna) Selvan's childhood love. From here on, the film revolves around how Veerapandi and Selvam settle scores with Annachi and the love story between Selvam and Radhika.
Dhanush portrays the angry young man with ease. His dances and action scenes are the real scene stealers.
Tamanna is apt for playing Radhika, adding glamour and oomph even in demure, traditional outfits!
Raj Kiran shows off a gamut of emotions in portraying the corrupt politician.
Director Hari shows his skill and ease at crafting pure entertainers.
