SRK, Gauri: The journey so far

Shah Rukh Khan and Gauri celebrated their 19th anniversary recently, here's a look at their love story...

Boy Meets Girl: Shah Rukh and Gauri met as school students in 1984, at the sort of party where girls and boys sat in opposite corners and asked each other to dance

Take One: It was love at first sight for SRK, when he saw Gauri dance with another boy. Shah Rukh sent a friend to ask Gauri to dance with him, but Gauri said no

Hard to Get: She told SRK's friend that she was waiting for her boyfriend. Shah Rukh was heartbroken but later he realised that it was actually her brother.

Say Cheese: SRK then called her and said, "Mujhe bhi apna bhai bana lo" and he won Gauri over

It's Complicated: The road to happiness was a thorny one as Shah Rukh was Muslim and Gauri, Hindu. The two managed to keep their relationship under wraps for six long years.

Emotional Atyachaar: The couple fought frequently over SRK's extreme possessiveness. Gauri got fed up one day and took off to Mumbai without telling her beau. Shah Rukh followed her and tracked her down near a beach

Take Two: They fell into each other's arms and, in what was to be the defining moment of their relationship, realized that they needed to be with each other for the rest of their lives

The plot thickens: Gauri's parents were hard to win over but neither Shah Rukh nor Gauri wanted to elope. At long last her parents came round, and they happy couple were married on October 25, 1991

Happy Ending: Their wedding was an unstarry affair. The few filmi guests included Rajiv Mehra, Vivek Vaswani, Aziz Mirza and G P Sippy

Shah Rukh says, "Gauri and I have one thing in common. I like me and she likes me. I don't know whether I am a nut but I am very intense about my love for Gauri...She's a part of me. Or rather, I am her appendage. I would say that our relationship is spiritual. It's more than a physical love story."

In another interview he also said, “I love Gauri because she is so honest and she complements me. Gauri teaches me how to be diplomatic. She keeps telling me that I say too many things and that I should not. Because people don't know me well enough and then they completely misconstrue what I've said. So, it's better to keep shut. She had taught me to switch the lights off before going to bed, to have dinner at the proper place, to put my clothes in the proper place, she has taught me how to dress up well too. She has turned me from an animal to a man. She spoils me a lot. She is the stabilizing factor in my life. I would go haywire because I am an extremist. And its not my achievements, for which she respects or likes me. She likes me because I make her laugh.”

Shah Rukh and Gauri recently faced the camera together for an advertisement of interior design company D- Décor. Soon after the King Khan posted a picture on Twitter and wrote: "got a pic from the d decor shoot...the furnishing is awesome...the wife looks fine too."

SRK also tweeted about his anniversary, he wrote: "Also wedding anniversary today...19 years of togetherness and two angels to show for it. By far our best productions..." We agree!
