Tamil superstar Vijay was first announced as the lead actor for Singam but later film's director Hari decided to go with Surya when he got the movie registered, creating controversy.
The film was produced by Gnanavelraja under the banner Studio Green and BIG Pictures. Studio Green has earlier made Sillunnu Oru Kaadhal and Paruthiveeran.
