The world's most glamorous red carpet welcomed a small galaxy of stars on the first day of the Cannes Film Festival. Actress Lupita Nyong'o watched opening film La Tete Haute on May 13 in a sea foam pleated Gucci dress that she twirled about her.

Actress Natalie Portman, on the arm of her choreographer husband Benjamin Millepied, was a scarlet siren in fire engine red at the screening. Natalie's first film as director, A Tale of Love and Darkness, will receive a special screening later in the festival.
