When aspriring actor Delhi boy SRK met Gauri Chhiber, it was love at first sight for him. Gauri, however, was not so impressed. At a mutual friend's party, the shy Shah Rukh still gathered the courage to ask Gauri to dance. She turned him down stating she already had a boyfriend. This, he would later know, wasn't true.

With time (and a lot of persistence from Shah Rukh), Gauri was hooked on to this charming man. After a six-year long courtship and SRK following Gauri all the way to Mumbai after just a day of separation, the two decided to wed.

Shah Rukh and Gauri finally married in 1991. By this time, Shah Rukh was slowly making his name as a talented young actor in television with the shows Fauji, Circus and Idiot. It would also be around this time when Shah Rukh would take the plunge and struggle his way into Bollywood before making a solid three-film debut with Deewana, Dil Aashna Hai and Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman.
