Top 10 Bollywood damp squibs of 2012

Here's a look at some Bollywood movies that failed to click at the box office this year.

  • Heroine: Far from being Kareena Kapoor's The Dirty Picture, the much hyped Heroine proved to be one of the most disappointing films of 2012. Notwithstanding the rigorous marketing and promotions and Kareena's sizzling item number Halkat Jawani, the movie fizzled away into nothingness, both at the box office as well under the critical eye. Kareena's performance received some praise, but not enough to resurrect the film.
  • Teri Meri Kahaani: Ex-lovebirds Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapoor reunited on-screen for this love story spanning three eras, but the glaring lack of chemistry between them sent the film plummeting at the box office.
  • Dangerous Ishq: If Sridevi made the comeback of comebacks with English Vinglish, Karisma Kapoor did exactly the opposite in this past life themed movie which received dangerous reviews, was dangerously long and did dangerously poorly at the box office.
  • Agent Vinod: Sriram Raghavan's spy-thriller, also Saif Ali Khan's debut home production, had all the ingredients for a blockbuster- a hero modelled on James Bond who hops from one exotic location to another with real-life girlfriend Kareena in tow, an intelligently crafted plot. But clearly the end result wasn't more than the sum of its parts and the movie was declared a box office flop.
  • Players: This remake of the 2003 Hollywood blockbuster The Italian Job boasted an enormous cast - Abhishek Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Bipasha Basu, Bobby Deol and Sikandar Kher. It was filmed in foreign locations such as New Zealand, Russia and even the North Pole. However, the film was deemed a disaster at the box office.
  • Joker: Just why Akshay Kumar had chosen to all but disown this alien movie was explained when Joker released and was panned by reviewers and at the box office.
  • Aiyyaa: Rani Mukherji's film was promoted as Wildly wakda. Yet the much-hyped film about a Marathi mulgi who defies parental pressure, follows her heart to try and get the man she wants turned out to be a Dreamum everyone wanted to wakeupum from.
  • Jodi Breakers: Starring Madhavan and Bipasha Basu, this tale of two people in the business of splitting up couples, tanked at the box office and also landed in legal soup after Universal Pictures International France and Ors (a co-producer of Heartbreakers) filed plagiarism charges against the makers of the film.
  • Khiladi 786: Akshay Kumar's return to the role that had made him famous was one of the most awaited releases of the year. While the film scored on its music and good reviews, it had a rather average opening at the box office.
  • Ek Main Aur Ek Tu: Kareena Kapoor and Imran Khan's Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu, produced by Karan Johar and directed by Shakun Batra was much hyped as a fun romantic comedy. Imran and Kareena's chemistry notwithstanding, the film was only a very moderate success. Made on a budget of Rs 36 crore, it was able to earn only Rs 40.41 crore at the box office.
