Often touted as "the most beautiful woman in the world", Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has quite the image.

You would think then, that the maternity wardrobe of the woman of such international repute, would supersede that of mere mortals. Sadly, it is not so.

Here are 10 such instances where the Bachchan bahu didn't quite dress to impress.

When Amitabh Bachchan broke the news of his daughter-in-law's pregnancy with that now famous tweet in June, the world would have seen the first of the baby bump courtesy Aishwarya's appearance at the Cannes Film Festival, held in May this year. She announced her new film, Heroine, with Madhur Bhandarkar.

Given how epic in proportion Madhur's ambitious project was, everybody thought her dress should have matched the occasion.

This brown ensemble was simple to a fault and didn't quite do much for her rather full figure, either. Without any embellishment whatsoever, the look was just flat at the end.

In June, just days before the pregnancy announcement, Aishwarya was seen at the 162nd Prix de Diane horse racing in Chantilly, north of Paris.

Getting flak for her underwhelming dress at Cannes, Aishwarya promptly overdid it with the oversized hat and beige gown.

Now 'officially' pregnant Aishwarya was spotted at the airport wearing what can only be described as a linen lollipop.

Once again, her outfit doesn't flatter her figure, with the plain t-shirt hanging frumpily on her front.

A casual movie date with husband Abhishek can turn into a maternity fashion disaster. Especially if you're Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, this horror is tripled in magnitude; it's almost as if she knew her outfit was scandalous for a celebrity to try and carry!

The usually gorgeous actress couples a plain white tee with a yellow jacket. Her trousers, a deep blue, don't fit her even a little bit, hanging loose in places. We're thinking Aishwarya knew this, which is why she's hiding behind Abhishek.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was in Delhi with her family to receive an award from the French government in July this year. But the actor requested the French Ambassador to postpone the award as news of three blasts hitting Mumbai, broke.

Aishwarya's appearance at the award ceremony was highly anticipated since it would have been only her second public outing since her pregnancy was declared.

But the yellow sari and ill-fitting blouse caught the media eye for all the wrong reasons. Abhishek looks dapper enough, but even he can't save his wife from looking bizarre.

Choosing to go off the radar somewhere in July/August, Aishwarya Bachchan made a series of public appearances in recent weeks.

The usually gorgeous actress looks somewhat frumpy in this cream Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla suit.

Not just the suit, but style watchers swooned at the layers of make-up caked on the naturally beautiful face.

Aishwarya was seen at Durga Puja in this sari which she borrowed from mother-in-law Jaya Bachchan.

Jaya Bachchan wore it at Star Screen Awards 2010. Nice touch but shorn of movie-star glamour.

A green churidar suit and a gold Fendi clutch was Mrs Bachchan's preferred outfit for the Mata Ki Chowki held by Sanjay Dutt.

Thankfully, we have her father-in-law Amitabh Bachchan to distract us in his striking, deep red kurta-pyjama.
