Vidya Balan, Kamal Haasan glitter at Padma awards

Vidya Balan, one of Bollywood's most versatile actresses, was awarded with the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian award, by President Pranab Mukherjee at a glittering ceremony in New Delhi's Rashtrapati Bhawan. Arguably Bollywood's most talented actress, Vidya has featured in films such as Paa, The Dirty Picture and Kahaani.

Vidya, who is reportedly pregnant, looked beautiful in a yellow silk sari with green and pink borders, finished with antique gold jewellery.

South superstar Kamal Haasan received the Padma Bhushan award at the ceremony. Mr Haasan has starred in Tamil hits like Nayagan and Indian and Hindi films such as Ek Duje Ke Liye and Saagar. He also starred in many Tamil films that were remade in Hindi, like Moondram Pirai and Sadma.

Bengali actress Sabitri Chatterjee, star of hits like Bhranti Bilas and Dhanyi Meye, received the Padma Shri.

Hindustani classical singer Begum Parveen Sultana was honoured with the Padma Shri. Begum Parveen has also sung playback for Hindi films such as Pakeezah and won a Filmfare Award for the song Hume Tumse Pyar Kitna from 1981 film Kudrat.

Sarangi player Ustad Moinuddin Khan was also awarded the Padma Shri.

Eminent theatre director Bansi Kaul was felicitated with the Padma Shri.

Eminent scientist Raghunath Anant Mashelkar received the Padma Vibhushan, India's second highest civilian award.
