  • This year at Cannes, Vidya Balan leads an Indian invasion that includes Amitabh Bachchan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sonam Kapoor and Freida Pinto. While we wait to see who will take the red carpet honours, here's a look at how well the Bollywood contingent has fared at Cannes in previous years.
  • Aishwarya Rai Bachchan: After a few early hiccups, Ash has reserved some of her best fashion choices for Cannes.

The one that tops our list is the Roberto Cavalli dress which she wore in 2009. According to reports the dress was worth a whopping Rs 5 million.

In 2009, she wore silver accessorized with husband Abhishek.

In 2010, she chose a pink Gucci one of a kind dress.

Also in 2010, Ash chose a lilac Elie Saab gown for the opening ceremony.
  • Sonam Kapoor: As befits Bollywood's leading style star, Sonam's Cannes wardrobe has been edgy and fashion-forward.

Among our favorites – a gold Roberto Cavalli floor-length dress she wore in 2012 and a navy blue back-slit Vivienne Westwood dress in 2011.

Her Cannes debut was spectacular in monochrome Jean Paul Gaultier. A red Dolce & Gabbana ballerina dress was a highlight of 2012.
  • Freida Pinto: The Slumdog Millionaire actress is internationally hailed for her style picks. Freida looked gorgeous in a lime green Atelier Versace dress at Cannes in 2012.

Then the same year she wore a Michael Angel gown with a multi-coloured bodice and thigh high split during the premiere of film Moonrise Kingdom.

She also wore a cropped top, matching skirt and denim sandals at the photocall of her movie, Desert Dancer in 2012.
  • Deepika Padukone: In 2010, femme fatale Deepika Padukone went the desi route in a white and gold Rohit Bal sari. She completed her look with gold jhumkas, bindi, bracelet, a gold clutch and hair in a chignon.
  • Mallika Sherawat: The Bollywood siren has worn a series of looks at Cannes, ranging from her usual risqué choices to more covered-up picks. A white feathery dress in 2011 earned her a nod from fashion pundits.

An olive green Victoria Beckham dress and minimal make-up left her almost unrecognizable as the sultry Hisss star in 2012.

In 2012 again, Mallika struck the right chord with a feminine coral gown paired with a blingy Zagliani clutch.
  • Kalki Koechlin: This Indian actress of French descent was at the festival in 2012 to support her husband Anurag Kashyap's film Gangs Of Wasseypur. Kalki picked a nude Dior Resort gown which was complemented with a Brigitte Bardot updo.
  • Mehr Rampal: Perhaps the highlight of Arjun Rampal's Cannes debut was wife Mehr who was a head-turner in an orange dress by Tarun Tahiliani.
  • Bipasha Basu: The Bengali bombshell posed in a bold grey sari during the photo call for her film Goal, at the 60th International film festival in Cannes held in 2007.
  • Parvathy Omanakuttan: Miss World runner up 2008 Parvathy wore a gold sequined dress for the premiere of film Bright Star in 2009.
  • Sharmila Tagore: Paving the way for this year's jury member Vidya Balan was Sharmila, who was on the Cannes jury in 2009. She was her usual elegant self in a floral yellow sari.
