Rekha in Silsila: Rekha, the 'other woman' in the love triangle movie, wore pristine white for her cinematic face-off with Jaya Bachchan. Rekha also wore a white salwar-kameez in the famous Holi themed Rang Barse song.

Sridevi in Chandni: Even though Rekha was the first Yash Chopra heroine to be seen in a white chiffon sari, Sridevi was the one who made it a style statement of sorts in Chandni. As the titular heroine, whose name meant moonlight, she looked dazzling in saris of the brightest white as well as in the pure white salwar-kameezs.

Sridevi in Lamhe: After Chandni, white became the lucky colour for both Yash Chopra and Sridevi. The actress was once again seen in a white lehenga designed by Neeta Lulla in Lamhe.

Madhuri Dixit in Dil Toh Pagal Hai: It was designer Manish Malhotra, who dressed Madhuri in a trendy white salwar-kameez in Dil Toh Pagal Hai. This was a trend-setter with many young girls opting for the same look.

Juhi Chawla in Darr: Juhi Chawla, the object of Shah Rukh Khan's obsessive affection, wore a white dress in the theme dance that featured in the movie Darr.

Yash Chopra was to shoot a song with Katrina Kaif in a chiffon sari at his favourite location, the Swiss Alps, for his last film Jab Tak Hai Jaan.

Designer Manish Malhotra wrote on Twitter: "We were to go to the Swiss Alps to shoot a song with Katrina (Kaif) in chiffon saris. He discussed the saris with passion and used to tell me that 'I want you to be there at the shoot'.”

And while Manish didn't say the sari would be white, this seems to end the question mark over which of the two Jab Tak Hai Jaan heroines – Katrina and Anushka Sharma – would get the Yash Chopra sari treatment.
