The war of the item gals just took an unexpected turn. The buzz has suddenly shifted from DP's hot bod and steamy moves in Dum Maaro Dum to the ‘crass' and ‘cheap' lyrics of the refurbished version of the 70s cult song.
Here are the lyrics which have many disgusted:
Hey, tu phir dekh raha hai
Aaj aankh sek raha hai, kal haath sekega
Aaj deel chod raha hai, kal khudi rokega
Aaj mere liye chair kheech raha hai, kal meri skirt kheechega
kheechega ke nahin hun
Unche se uncha banda, potty pe baithe nanga
Phir kaahe ki society, saali kaahe ka paakhanda
Bheje se kaleje se, kalaje ke kalaje se
Mit jaaye hum maroge toh jeeyoge dum maaro dum
Dum maaro dum
Mit jaaye gham
Bolo subaha sham

Claiming actors have no control over the words of a song, Deepika defends her case saying that the song had to be different from the original. She even stated that the response she has received is overwhelming her.
But there's a twist in the tale: despite standing up for the song now, Deepika's first reaction to the explicit lyrics was one of shock. She shot for the item number on the condition that she would be excused from lip syncing the risqué bits. Director Rohan Sippy compromised by having her turn her back to the camera for the lyrics in question. -
While the original song from the 1971 blockbuster Hare Rama Hare Krishna propelled Zeenat Aman to the A-list of actresses at the time, DP is unlikely to be crowned queen for this one.
-
Some fans have gifted Deepika skirts – a gentle hint that what's short is not always hot?
-
Deepika's DMD was to start a whole new battle in the always- on war of the item songs.
-
The swinging DP tried to put the Munni versus Sheila debate to rest, once and for all, but seems like she tried too hard.
-
Things don't always work out as planned, especially in completely unpredictable and ever-surprising Bollywood.
-
First, DP said the length of the skirt (or lack of it) made her uncomfortable. She quickly switched to shorts with tassels.
-
Deepika also worked harder on her already fabulous body to give a skin fit to the halter-neck bikini top.
-
DP has even jived with live ants crawling on her back to add that extra zing.
-
Extra pep or not, Deepika Padukone was reportedly paid Rs 1.5 crore for her moves.
-
This song had apparently made Deepika the highest-paid item girl in Bollywood.
-
We hear former beau Ranbir Kapoor is bowled over by Deepika's hot moves.
-
We hear DP herself refused to lip sync some of the crass lyrics. Well, that's that then!
-
DP exudes energy and more energy for the song.
-
The tattoo does its bit to add to the high-energy and visual delight of the song.
-
But even in the cool and sometimes crass world of item songs, many feel that this one will not make the cut.
