A bigger, better Mumbai Marathon

It was a day when Mumbaikars, along with business tycoons and Bollywood celebrities, put on their running shoes for the eighth edition of the Mumbai Marathon.

Ethiopian national Girma Assefa won the Marathon which was held on Sunday.

  • One of the star participants was model-actor Milind Soman, who runs the full marathon each year. Kavita Raut, the 10,000 metre Commonwealth Games bronze medalist and double medalist in the 2010 Asian Games, also ran the Women's half Marathon.

  • The total prize money at stake is 325,000 dollars. Around 179 NGOs and 132 corporate houses are part of the event with each promising to raise a minimum of one lakh rupees towards several causes. Heavy security arrangements were also made by the administration.
