Amitabh Bachchan Endorses The 'Clean, Segregate, Compost' Mantra
The Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan has been one of the most successful campaigns in India and has now got the pledge and support of millions, but a lot more needs to be done. India is one of the biggest waste generators in the world, and it is critical to start segregating our waste to manage it more efficiently. At the launch of season 4 of the NDTV-Dettol Banega Swachh India campaign, Amitabh Bachchan urged people to start collecting their waste, segregating and then composting it for further use.

In 2015, the residents of Vijaynagar complex in Andheri East built 5 biodegradable compost pits in their compound. The residents went door-to-door to convince people to segregate. After collection and segregation, the residents put the wet and dry waste in the pit to convert it to compost. The compost pits are equipped with air vents to help compost. There has been significant improvement in the segregation in the past two years. Now the society converts 45,000 kilos of waste into compost.
