Arvind Kejriwal detained, water canons and tear gas used on protestors

Activist Arvind Kejriwal was detained for the second time in the day by the Delhi Police for protesting without permission. In an attempt to stop Mr Kejriwal and his supporters from entering high-security areas of the capital, the Delhi Police used baton charge, tear gas and water canon to stop Mr Kejriwal and his supporters.

  • Arvind Kejriwal and his supporters, took out a protest march from Jantar Mantar to the residences of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and BJP President Nitin Gadkari.
  • The march started from Jantar Mantar around 1pm after activists Arvind Kejriwal, Prashant Bhushan, Manish Sisodia and others addressed the protesters.
  • Mr Kejriwal along with other members of India Against Corruption were earlier released after being detained for just over an hour by the Delhi Police for protesting outside the residences of the Prime Minister and Mrs Sonia Gandhi without permission.
  • Marching towards the Prime Minister's residence, Kejriwal told reporters that Congress and BJP were "hand in glove" in corruption and people's anger is now visible.
  • Police did not prevent protesters from marching towards the Prime Minister's residence though barricades were erected at several places. Sporadic protests throughout the day were witnessed outside the residences of Prime Minister, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and BJP chief Nitin Gadkari and a number of protesters were detained and subsequently released.
