Borewells turn into Death Traps
In yet another distressing case of borewell related accidents, 2 years old, Darawath Prasad fell into the open borewell in an agriculture field in Thorrur mandal at about 4.30 pm on Sunday.Rescue efforts are on to save the boy who feel into a 30 feet deep borewell in the Warangal district in Andhra Pradesh.

This is not the first time a child has accidently fallen into a borewell.
In July 2006, a 5-year-old boy named Prince was rescued from a 2-and a half feet in diameter, 60-foot deep borewell when he fell down while playing near it in his village in Haryana. The rescue then had lasted over 48 hours and was aided by Armymen who miraculously managed to pull Prince out.
Although 2-year-old Sonu was not so lucky. In October 2009, Sonu fell into a 150-feet borewell in his village near Agra. Even though authorities launched a massive effort to rescue him, unfourtunately, he could not be saved. (NDTV photo) -
Last year, another four-year-old child fell into a nullah in Mumbai's Mankhurd area, and died. Shahanbaaj Khan was apparently playing too close to the nullah. Khan's mother, along with the help of locals, began searching for him in the drain. (NDTV Photo)

To add to the family's woes, Ayub's maternal grandfather passed away due to extreme stress over the child's welfare.
Local residents were livid over the incident and said the gutter had been open for five months or so and the civic authorities did nothing despite many complaints. (NDTV Photo)
