BSF admits to killing Srinagar Teenager

Who killed 16-year-old Zahid Farooq at Nishat area of Srinagar on Friday? As this question continued to haunt the people of Srinagar for almost a week, the BSF on Wednesday, identified one of its personnel involved in the killing.

An internal inquiry conducted by the paramilitary forces identified the personnel, whose identity was not immediately known. He was questioned by senior officials of the force and will be charged with murder.(NDTV Photo)

The breakthrough came after Chief Minister Omar Abdullah raised the issue of Zahid's killing with the Centre at the recent Conference on Internal Security chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Locals said Zahid and some local boys were jeering at a passing Border Security Force (BSF) convoy, which angered the troops, and a jawan shot Zahid.(NDTV Photo)

The BSF, that had earlier denied its involvement,later changed its position.

Srinagar witnessed a partial shutdown following violent clashes over the past few days. The city has been on the boil ever since sixteen-year-old Zahid Farooq Shah was shot dead by the BSF Personnel on February 5 at Nishat.
