  • About 30 passengers were injured after a bus, number 17-M, fell off the Anna Gemini flyover in the heart of Chennai today.

There were about 60 passengers in the bus.

No casualty has been reported so far and the police say they hope there will be none.
  • The bus was travelling from Chennai to Vadapalani bus station. It crashed into the flyover wall and fell about eight or nine feet.
  • Early reports say the driver might have been over-speeding and allegedly lost control of the bus as he negotiated a bend on the flyover about an hour ago.
  • Traffic around the flyover, which is part of an arterial stretch, had come to a halt for about two hours, with hundreds of vehicles stranded on either side. The traffic on the Anna Gemini flyover was later restored.
  • The bus is lying on its side, shattered glass and crowds of people around it. Fire and rescue teams have climbed atop the bus now and are trying to remove the bus. The Gemini flyover is in the middle of Chennai close to the US embassy.
