Celebrating Gudi Padwa

The day marked the beginning of the nine-day "Navratri" festival. " Gudi Padwa" and "Ugadi" - New Year's Day - for the people of the Deccan region were also celebrated. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also greeted the people, as various festivals were celebrated across the Country.

Falling on the first day of the month of Chaitra, 'Gudhi Padwa' is celebrated with traditional fervour in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, parts of Konkan and among the Sindhi community under different names.

Similar enthusiasm was seen among people in cities like Pune, Nashik, Nagpur to name a few.
