Sheila Dikshit, chief minister of New Delhi urged the citizens to adopt a tree each and look after it so as to make Delhi look greener as well as breathe cleaner.
She also encouraged the concept of rainwater harvesting.
Ashok Chavan, chief minister of Maharashtra, pledged to make the state more eco-friendly and pollution free. He said that the need of the hour is to be aware of the environmental issues so that they can be properly addressed.
As part of the state's massive afforestation programme, Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik pledged to cover an area of 1 million hectares with trees.
Konijeti Rosaiah, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, pledged to save the society at large by protecting the environment. He said that the government of Andhra Pradesh was strictly adhering to the maintenance of 33 percent forest cover.
Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda vouched for solar power for a greener and cleaner future. He also pledged to increase the forest cover in the state.
