Chief Ministers pledge for a greener India

The chief ministers of various Indian states pledged to make their states greener and cleaner. Here is what they had to say.

Sheila Dikshit, chief minister of New Delhi urged the citizens to adopt a tree each and look after it so as to make Delhi look greener as well as breathe cleaner.

She also encouraged the concept of rainwater harvesting.

Ashok Chavan, chief minister of Maharashtra, pledged to make the state more eco-friendly and pollution free. He said that the need of the hour is to be aware of the environmental issues so that they can be properly addressed.
As part of the state's massive afforestation programme, Orissa Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik pledged to cover an area of 1 million hectares with trees.
Kolkata Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee urged the politicians and citizens to come up with initiatives to protect the environment.

As part of his green pledge, Jammu and Kashmir Chief MinisterOmar Abdullah vowed to restore the Dal lake and Nagin lake to their pristine glory.
Konijeti Rosaiah, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, pledged to save the society at large by protecting the environment. He said that the government of Andhra Pradesh was strictly adhering to the maintenance of 33 percent forest cover.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan pledged to plant 5 crore saplings and urged the citizens to plant at least one tree per year.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda vouched for solar power for a greener and cleaner future. He also pledged to increase the forest cover in the state.
Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa guaranteed sustainable development towards a greener and cleaner state.
