China: Baby rescued from flood water

Rainstorms that have been pelting south China since Sunday have left at least 42 people dead and 36 missing so far, the country's disaster relief authority said Wednesday.

  • Heavy rains battered parts of southern China for the fifth straight day on Thursday and the country's National Meteorological Centre warned of more stormy weather over the next few days.<br><br>Chinese state television on Thursday showed footage of flooded villages in Guangxi and Fujian provinces, with stranded residents being rescued by emergency workers.<br><br>CCTV also captured a video of a soldier using a rope to winch a baby to safety across a flooded river.
