In Pics: India Lights Candles, Diyas To Beat Coronavirus Darkness

In view of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's call, people across the country lit candles and diyas at 9 pm for 9 minutes tonight to fight the "darkness of COVID-19," which has infected over 3,000 people across the country and has claimed 83 lives so far.

As the clock struck 9, lights went out in most houses and people gathered in balconies and at doors, flashing mobile lights while many lit candles and diyas
PM Modi had on Friday urged people to turn off lights at their homes for nine minutes at 9 pm to display the country's collective resolve and solidarity to defeat the virus.
In a video message of over 11 minutes, Modi had also asked people to maintain the "lakshman rekha" of social distancing by staying indoors and not getting together in groups during the exercise

Spiritual slogans were heard too, as well as chants of "Bharat Mata ki Jai"
This was the second "collective display" to show unity in the fight against the virus requested by the Prime Minister since the lockdown started
