President Pranab Mukherji took stock of the decor at the polling booth on the President's Estate and seemed pleased with what he saw.
Vice President Hamid Ansari flashed his inked finger as he left the polling station.
Congress President Sonia Gandhi said after casting her vote,"Jo janta chaegi wahi hoga."
The BJP, on a winning streak since last year's national election, faces a tough challenge from Arvind Kejriwal's Aam Aadmi Party. Kiran Bedi, the BJP's candidate for chief minister, flashed the victory sign at a polling booth.
Arvind Kejriwal, the AAP's candidate for Chief Minister, said he was confident that the truth and the public would win in this election.
Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi cast his vote at the Aurangzeb Lane polling station.
Priyanka Gandhi and her husband Robert Vadra were among the voters later in the day.
Former Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit told reporters outside the Nirman Bhavan polling booth that the Congress would not support the AAP.
Ajay Maken, Congress' candidate for chief minister, asked people to vote judiciously.
BJP's Nupur Sharma, who is contesting against Arvind Kejriwal, was all smiles.
