Police have detained Captain Schettino, an Italian national, for questioning on charges of manslaughter, failure to offer assistance to passengers and abandonment of the ship.
Ensuring fuel doesn't leak out from the upended hull into the water is now a priority for the authorities. There is 500,000 gallons of fuel onboard, in 17 separate tanks. Sensors have been put in place to track the movements of the ship.
