Going Electric: Here Are The Electric Vehicles Set To Be Launched In India Soon

In a bid to boost electric vehicle (EV) adoption in India, the government has recently proposed waiving off road tax and registration fee on new electric vehicles. It is also considering a reduction in the Goods and Service Tax (GST) on these vehicles that are being seen as a viable alternative to the current lot of polluting vehicles running on fossil fuels. With these tax incentives and other sops like subsidies under FAME (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric and Hybrid Vehicles) scheme, national and international auto majors are gearing up to bring in their electric vehicles in the market. Here are some e-vehicles waiting to make their debut on Indian roads within one year.
Maruti Suzuki's Wagon R EV
Maruti Suzuki confirmed in April that it will be ready with its first electric car for India, Maruti Suzuki WagonR Electric, by next year. The largest car manufacturer in India said that the electric Wagon R will use a lithium-ion battery pack and will have a range of approximately 200 km (kilometre) on a single charge. Maruti Suzuki is expected to price the car at around Rs. 12 lakh.
Jaguar Land Rover's I-PACE
Jaguar Land Rover will launch its first e-car I-PACE in the second half of 2020. The five-seater I-PACE which has been priced at about Rs. 50 lakh comes with a powerful 90 kWh battery and has a range of 354 km per charge. The car is run by two electric motors instead of fuel engine and produces a power output of 150 kW.
MG Motor's MG eZS
MG Motor India announced that it will launch its first electric SUV (Sports Utility Vehicles) called ‘MG eZS' in India by December 2019. The MG eZS SUV features a high powered electric motor of 150hp (Horse Power) which is capable of pushing the car from a speed of 0 kmph (kilometre per hour) to 50 kmph in 3.1 seconds. The car offers a range of 335km from a single charge. The British automaker is scheduled to launch the MG eZS in India by December 2019 at a price of around Rs 25 lakh.
Audi E-Tron SUV
Audi E-Tron SUV, the company's first fully electric car is set to come to India by the end of 2019. The e-car is priced at Rs. 66 lakh and has a range of 400 km on a single charge. This German car can touch a top speed of 200 kmph. The e-car is capable of a transition from zero to a speed of 100 kmph in 5.7 seconds. Using 150kW fast chargers, the e-Tron will be capable of charging up to 80 percent in 30min. For at-home charging, a standard 11kW charger can be used that takes 8.5 hours for a full charge.
Sahara Group's Sahara Evols Classic
Sahara Group has recently announced its new electric vehicles brand ‘Sahara Evols'. The company is set to offer electric scooter Sahara Evols Classic by next year in the country. The e-scooter has a maximum range of 90 km on a full charge and a top speed of 60 kmph. The vehicle is powered by lithium-ion batteries and is priced around Rs. 85,000.
TVS's Creon
Set to be launched in India in February 2020, TVS Creon is capable of hitting a speed from 0-100 kmph in just 5.1 seconds. The electric scooter can be charged up to 80 per cent capacity in just 60 minutes to its lithium-ion battery pack. The price of TVS Creon has been set around Rs. 72,000.
Revolt Motor's RV400
Revolt Motor's Revolt RV400 is the first electric motorcycle from the company and will be launched in India in July 2019. With removable batteries, RV400 is set to be pre-booked for Rs. 1000 at the official website of the company as well as on Amazon. The highest range offered by RV400 on a single charge is 156 kilometres and can go up to a maximum speed of 85 kmph. The expected pricing of the e-motorcycle is Rs. 1 Lakh.
Regent Motorcycles' Regent No. 1
Sweden-based Regent Motorcycles recently showcased the retro-styled Regent No. 1 electric motorcycle on May 10, 2019 at the MC Massan Swedish Motorcycle Fair. The bike is set to launch in the market by May 2020 and is currently accepting pre-orders on the company's website. Priced at around Rs. 7.5 lakh, the bike has a top speed of 120 kilometre per hour (kmph). With a battery capacity of 6 kWh (Kilo Watt Per Hour), the e-bike offers a range of 150 km on a single charge.
