The fire started during a cultural programme - the Maharashtra night - just after the performance of actor Amitabh Bachchan.

The entire stage has been gutted and firefighters were initially struggling to bring the fire under control.

Amitabh Bachchan has been evacuated, along with Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Governor C Vidyasagar Rao, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray, actor Aamir Khan, actor and politician Hema Malini, who were attending the event.
