Nine Indians made it to the Time magazine's annual list of 100 most influential people this year. The list was divided into four categories namely heroes, thinkers, leaders and artists.

Leading the nation into the ranks of great powers, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was at the 19th spot in the Leaders list headed by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar got the 13th place among 25 Heroes headed by former US president Bill Clinton.
Author Chetan Bhagat of the One Night @ the Call Centre and Five Point Someone fame is the only Indian in the list of Artists headed by singer Lady Gaga.
Nobel prize winner economist Amartya Sen is 20th on the "Thinkers" list. Aishwarya Rai topped the Time 100 Alumnae list. Here's a look at all the Indians who featured on the list. -
Seated at the 19th spot in the Leaders list headed by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Leading the nation with his futuristic approach, Manmohan Singh realised the true potential of the nation and was greatly instrumental in building the nation into the league of the great powers. US president Barrack Obama features at No.4 on the list.

Placed sixth among heroes, Dr Perumalsamy Namperumalsamy, 70, was recognised for performing cataract surgery at the Aravind Eye Care Hospitals founded in 1976.
What's so extra ordinary about it? Well, Dr. Namperumalsamy figured out how to replace cataracts safely and quickly and has performed 3.6 million surgeries to date - a new one every 15 minutes! -
Little Master Sachin Tendulkar was nested at the 13th place among 25 Heroes with the category being headed by former US president Bill Clinton who is recognised for his work as a fund-raiser and anti-poverty activist.
Attaining unprecedented fame and glory, Tendulkar's achievements are immeasurable. The living legend has such formidable statistical figures, the attainment of which is only like a far fetched dream to many.
Adding another feather to his hat, Tendlya's name on the list just added to his awe-inspiring glory and adulation. -
Indian entrepreneur Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw closely followed Sachin at the 16th spot among 'heroes'. At age 25, she created a biotech company in her garage.Today that start-up, Biocon International, is a $1 billion operation.
Dr. Shaw donated $2 million to support health insurance coverage for 100,000 Indian villagers and another$10 million for creating the 1,400-bed Mazumdar-Shaw Cancer Centre in Bangalore that will treat poor patients for free in the evenings. (AFP Photo) -
In the list of hereos itself on the 22nd spot was a paramedic from Toronto, Rahul Singh, recognised for his selfless efforts in providing relief to the people in Haiti after the devastating earthquake hit the poor Caribbean nation on January 12,2010.
Singh established the GlobalMedic in 1998, that provides disaster relief in the immediate aftermath of catastrophes using volunteer professional emergency workers.
Wasting no time at all in arriving in Port-au-Prince, Singh and his group of volunteers are a shining example of how altruism still exists! They provided clean drinking water and medical aid wherever it was needed besides training a local team of Haitians to take over the work. -

Doctor and Harvard professor Atul Gawande was fifth on the list of Thinkers for his contribution to medicine. One of the most influential healers in the world, 44-year-old Gawande in his best-selling book The Checklist Manifesto, makes a compelling case for using simple checklists in medicine and other fields.
Certain about his influence to grow in the future, US State Senator, Tom Daschle said that Gawande more than fits the bill for smart, creative thinkers indispensable in today's world. -
20th on the Thinkers list was Nobel prize winner economist Amartya Sen. The brilliant economist referred to as loquacious some times and genial the other, finds his notion of measuring human development as one that is central to the work of the United Nations and the World Bank.

Topping the list of Time 100 Alumnae list was former Miss World and Bollywood superstar Aishwarya Rai- Bachchan. Expressing her gratitude towards her parents, Rai said, her parents influenced her the most when she was growing up.
