INS Vikrant, India's First Indigenous Aircraft Carrier, Undocked
India on Wednesday undocked its first indigenously-built aircraft carrier INS Vikrant at a simple ceremony at Cochin Shipyard Limited in Cochin. Cochin Shipyard Limited Chairman and Managing Director Commodore Kartik Subramaniam and other shipyard officials were present at the undocking function.
After the successful completion of INS Vikrant, the 40,000 tonne aircraft carrier, it puts India in the elite group of four nations, the US, Russia, the UK and France, in the world capable of designing and constructing aircraft carriers.
The basic design of the indigenous aircraft carrier was done by the Indian Navy's Directorate of Naval Design, with detailing designs done by the design team of Cochin Shipyard Limited.
