Jammu on high alert
Fresh ceasefire violation was reported along the International Border near Jammu on Thursday evening at around 10:30 pm. Heavy firing was reported from the other side of the border near Nikowal about 40 kilometres from Jammu. These incidents of firing along the international border in recent days are being taken very seriously. According to sources BSF in Punjab and Jammu is on high alert.

Two BSF soldiers have been injured in the exchange of fire. They have been shifted to Jammu Medical College Hospital. BSF has lodged a strong protest at a flag meeting with Pakistan rangers who have denied that there was firing from their side. Additional BSF forces are being deployed along the border. (NDTV Photo)

Jammu has now virtually become a fortress with tight security on all roads leading to the city. BSF personnel are checking every vehicle going into the city as they suspect that Pakistani infiltrators may have entered the area. Jammu’s border with Pakistan has also been placed on high alert. Buses were stopped and each passenger was frisked individually. A senior BSF official told the media that there was firing from a light machine gun from the Pakistani side on Nikowal border post, about 30 km west of Jammu in the Pargawal sector. Of late there's been increasing ceasefire violations along the Line of Control and the international border, even as foreign secretaries of India and Pakistan are due to meet at the UN. (AP Photo)
