In Pics: Kargil Vijay Diwas - A Tribute To Soldiers Behind The Success Of Operation Vijay
Defence Minister Arun Jaitley accompanied by Army Chief General Bipin Rawat, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Sunil Lanba, and Air Chief Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa, paid homage to war heroes at the Amar Jawan Jyoti in New Delhi on Kargil Vijay Diwas. The Kargil conflict in the mountains of Jammu and Kashmir took place after Pakistani troops crossed the Line of Control and occupied Indian posts on the heights. It took about three months for the Indian forces to recapture the posts. Over 500 armed forces personnel laid down their lives during the 60-day long war.
