Lord Jagannath's Rath Yatra will begin in Puri, Odisha on July 1. The Rath Yatra, is known as the Chariot Celebration of Lord Jagannath, Goddess Subhadra, and Lord Balabhadra.

  • The Rath Yatra festival is observed on 'Dwitiya Tithi' (second day), 'Shukla Paksha' of Ashadh month, as per the Hindu calendar.
  • Rath Yatra begins with the tradition of visiting the Gundicha temple on July 1. 'Hera Panchami', the first five days when Lord Jagannath resides in Gundicha temple will be marked on July 5. 'Sandhya Darshan' will be observed on July 8.
  • During this period, Lord Jagannath along with his brother Lord Balabhadra and their sister, Goddess Subhadra visit the Gundicha Temple and stay there for 8 days.
  • After 8 days at the Gundicha Temple, Bahuda Yatra is the homecoming of Lord Jagannath, his brother Lord Balabhadra and their sister Goddess Subhadra. The Bahuda Yatra will be observed on July 9.
  • 'Sunabesa' refers to the return of Lord Jagannath which will be observed on July 10, after Lord Jagannath's return, the 'Aadhar Pana' ritual is observed where a special drink is offered to the chariots.
